Festivals and traditions: Benalmádena’s living past

Benalmádena is passion, entertainment, and roots. Through its street-level celebrations, visitors stop being mere spectators and become new members of the community.

The historic centre, the coast, and Arroyo de la Miel provide the setting for festivals and traditions where identity is more present than ever, and emotions rise to the surface. La Veladilla del Carmen, the town’s seafaring pride, or the fair in honour of the Virgen de la Cruz reflect the history and culture of a land. Other celebrations join them, such as the magical San Juan Fair or Carnival, full of laughter and costumes.

Devotion arrives with the Corpus Christi festival and , especially, with El Paso during Holy Week, a unique event. This spectacular theatrical reenactment of the Passion and death of Jesus Christ brings together thousands of people every year at El Retamar Rustic Park.

Living traditions that invite the world to take part, absorb them, and discover the history of Benalmádena.
